Subway Accident

Driving or Failure Accidents
  • In 2008, 164 subway accidents(74 deaths, 92 injuries) had occurred, and it had decreased 6.5% in the number of accidents of accidents, 0.7% in deaths, 9.3% in injuries comparing to 2001(262 accidents, 78 deaths, 182 injuries).

    The effect of decrease is caused by the expansion of railroad safety facilities like platform screen door(PSD) system, annual safety plan and integrated railroad safety audit system.

Passenger Death or Injury
  • 1283 subway accidents involving death or injury of subway passengers broke out from 1998 to 2007, killing 799 persons and injuring 894 persons in total or 100 persons and 112 persons respectively on annual average.
  • 1093 subway accidents involving death or injury broke out in the recent 5 years (’04~’08), killing 463 persons and injuring 634 persons. Most of deaths or injuries are attributable to suicide attempt or victim's own negligence. The most frequent cause of subway passenger death or injury in the recent 3 years is suicide.
