Electrification Status

  • Electric railway accounting for KTX lines and other conventional lines playing a critical role in moving freight and passengers in the Greater Seoul area started off with the launch of 155.2km line between Cheongryangli~Jecheon (Joongang Line) on June 20, 1973. As of the end of 2007, KTX lines stretch 240.3km and conventional electric lines account for 1,577.5km. Electrification ratio has jumped to 53.6% with 43 electrical railway substations and 159 section posts now in place.
