Subway Infrastructure

  • Since the launch of Seoul Subway Line 1 between Seoul Station - Chungryangli Station on August 15, 1974, the government has invested KRW 　26.9984 trillion in subway network construction as of April, 2008 and 16 subway lines stretching 504.1km in total are now in operation in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju and Daejon. In terms of regional breakdown, Seoul has 8 subway lines running 286.9km, Busan 3 lines of 96.0km, Daegu 2 lines stretching 57.3km, Incheon 1 line of 22.9km. Gwangju 1 line of 20.5km and Daejon 1 line running 20.5km.
  • As of April, 2008, there are 480 subway stops nationwide, including 265 in Seoul, 94 in Busan, 56 in Daegu, 23 in Incheon, 20 in Gwangju and 22 in Daejon. Total number of rolling stock adds up to 5,041 units, 3,505 in Seoul, 776 in Busan, 384 in Daegu, 200 in Incheon, 92 in Gwangju, 84 in Daejon which add up to 650 trainsets.
  • Metropolitan subways carry 7,461,000 persons per day in total as of the end of '07, which break down into 6,213,000 in Seoul, 651,000 in Busan, 294,000 in Daegu, 201,000 in Incheon, 38,000 in Gwangju and 64,000 in Daejon. As of ’07, in annual terms, passenger carrying records are 2,723 million persons in total, 2,268 million in Seoul, 238 million in Busan, 107 million in Daegu, 73 million in Incheon, 14 million in Gwangju and 23 million in Daejon.
