Communication Infrastructure

  • Railway communication infrastructure is a critical piece of railway operation. Railway operation systems (CTC, SCADA, Enterprise Information System, ERP, etc.) contribute to train operation safety, service quality and business performance of railway industry by responding to rises in demands for data communication links in the digital era and ensuring operational reliability. Korean railway industry has seen continuous implementation of a series of fiber optic communication network implementation projects since 1988 to the extent that fiber optic links now account for 80% of the entire communication network or 2,707km as of 2008 along with 15,665 onboard radio communication units and 1,463 control phones for communication of train operation information.
