Pedestrian,Passenger Accident

  • Pedestrian accidents mean an incident where a pedestrial is killed or injured in relation to train-to-human contact or railway facility while walking across railway track or station premises. Passenger accidents refer to an incident where a passenger is killed or injured in relation to train operation or railway facility after entering station premises or boarding a train.

    In terms of pedestrian/passenger death and injury from 2001 to 2008, 497 incidents broke out in 2001, killing 229 persons and injuring 282 persons. As a result of consistent efforts to reduce such death/injury by installing automatic sliding doors to trains, reinforcing railway track fences and promoting safety awareness of passengers and wayside residents, pedestrian/passenger death and injury and casualties have declined every year to reach 293 persons in 2008, representing 7.6% drop
